THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO, January 18, (LSN) It was a tough weekend for the Lakehead Thunderwolves, who fell 4-2 to the Western Mustangs Saturday night.
After finding themselves down by two early in the second period, the Thunderwolves struggled to find the back of the net and complete a comeback.
“Tough weekend for us,” said head coach Andrew Wilkins.
“There are some valuable games coming up. We need to learn and find a way to get better.”
Mustangs forward Franco Sproviero opened up scoring in the first period, while Kolton Olynek doubled the Mustangs led.
Halfway through the second period Thunderwolves sophomore Dexter Kuczek snuck the puck past the Western goalie and cut the Mustangs lead in half.
The Western squad would regain their two-goal lead before the end of the period as junior defenseman David Eccles scored his first goal as a Mustang.
Lakehead forward Josh Laframboise gave his team some hope when he buried the puck in the back of the Mustangs net and brought the game within one with just over a minute left to play, but an empty-net goal scored a minute later sealed the deal for Mustangs.
The Thunderwolves will head south next weekend for their final road trip of the OUA regular season and will face the Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers each for the third time this season
