THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO, November 9, 2019 (LSN) The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team recorded their first home win of the year Friday night, scoring four goals to take the first of two games against the Concordia Stingers 4-3 at the Fort William Gardens.
After the Stingers took a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period, the Thunderwolves’ finally saw some success from a previously struggling power play.
Thunderwolves forward Jordan King scored his first goal of the game on the powerplay, assisted by Caleb Boman and Dexter Kuzcek.
A couple of minutes later, Tomas Soustal would record his first point of the night by scoring the Thunderwolves' second goal of the night and tying the game on another Lakehead power play.
The second period was quieter, as both goaltenders refused to let anything through until Waterloo’s Anthony Beauchamp shot one past Lakehead’s senior netminder Nic Renyard to reclaim the lead for the Warriors late in the period.
The final frame was all Thunderwolves. The Lakehead squad came out of the gate ready to earn the two points.
King scored his second power-play goal of the night to tie the game for the Thunderwolves, assisted by Soustal and Troy Williams.
Kuzcek sealed the deal for the Thunderwolves, scoring Lakehead’s game-winning goal on the power play with just under five minutes left to play in the third.
Renyard was solid all night for the Wolves, making 40 saves. On the other end of the ice Concordia’s goaltender, Marc-Antoine Turcotte made 37 saves.
The Thunderwolves will face off against the east division Stingers once more on Saturday night, the puck drop will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Fort William Gardens.

Lakehead Thunderwolves started off very slow in the 1st
Being down 2 0 but came out very strong at the end of the 1st before Concordia scored two fast goals silence to crowd in the 2Nd the game was back and forth again of penalty’s both goaltenders made some crazy saves got the fans into the Concordia stinger went into the dressing room with a 3 2 lead lots of good hits fast pace action prove to be super game-saving moments stood tall for Lakehead.
The 3rd Lakehead battle hard and showed lots of Enthusiastic scored two beautiful goals in the 3rd cut the lead to 4 3 home fans definitely got on the officials again at the fwg Friday night
In the 3rd Concordia had to many men on the ice Lakehead coach could be seemingly very mad almost jumping over the bench finally Concordia was called on Lakehead goalie was the better goaltender of the evening making some remarkable saves for the fans went into frenzy in the dying last mins of the game holding a 4 3 nail biter game for Lakehead.
Concordia wasn’t too happy about losing this key game 4 3 playoffs implications for Lakehead was a must-win Situation
Tommrow night at 7 pm Lakehead vs Concordia looking to sweep this weekend of hopes to catch some teams in the standings before the Xmas break. Lakehead Thunder wolves definitely did show a lot of pride Friday and heart for the fans would like to see more fans to come out and pack the.
