29% impaired by drug
NORTH BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~ September 2, 2020 (LSN) On August 29, 2020, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check on the bypass in North Bay.
A vehicle approached and officers had to jump out of the way or they would have been struck by the vehicle. The vehicle stopped down the highway. Officers approached and spoke with the driver. The driver was arrested at the scene for impaired driving and brought back to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Daniel GAUTHIER, age 24, of Chisholm Township, Ontario, was charged with the following:
- Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and
- Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.
The accused was released on an appearance notice with a date to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on November 3, 2020.
The drivers licence was subject to a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for 7-days.

(NORTH BAY, ON) - On August 30, 2020, at approximately 2:40 a.m., officers from the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received call about a vehicle travelling on Highway 11 in the City of North Bay without any lights and had almost caused a head-on collision travelling in the wrong lane.
While officers were on route they learned that the vehicle lost control and flipped into the ditch. The driver who suffered minor injuries, was arrested at the scene by police for impaired driving.
As a result of the investigation, Robert LIDKEA, age 38, of St. Catherines, Ontario, was charged with the following:
- Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and
- Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.
The accused was released on an appearance notice with a date to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on November 3, 2020.

These incidents marks 34 drivers charged under the criminal impaired driving laws by the North Bay OPP Detachment in the year 2020.
- 79% of the persons charged were male,
- 41% were between the ages of 20 and 29,
- 32% of the incidents were called in as traffic complaints,
- 44% were between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7 a.m., and
- 24% occurred on a Sunday.
