THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~~~ May 13, 2021 (LSN) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has upgraded the charge against the accused involved in a serious assault in Mishkeegogamang First Nation.
Jerry FOX, age 32 of Mishkeegogamang First Nation has now been charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.
The accused remains in custody and will attend a bail hearing in Ontario Provincial Court on Friday May 14, 2021.
Shortly after 7:00 a.m. on May 1, 2021, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to an assault at a Henry Street residence, requesting assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The victim was air-lifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim later succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation is ongoing with the collaboration of NAPS, the OPP's Northwest Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
