MAN ARRESTED AFTER WOMAN VIOLENTLY ASSAULTED

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~  July 10, 2020  (LSN)  Hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers were called yesterday Thursday July 9,2020 after a woman had been violently assaulted and injured in the East End.
It is alleged that a woman woke up at 4am to go to the bathroom in the 500 block McIntosh Street. Upon returning to bed, the accused allegedly held a 4” steak knife above her head and threatened to kill her. It’s further alleged that the woman was punched in the face, causing a tooth to be knocked out of her mouth and had her breast grabbed causing bruising and scratches.

After police investigated, they arrested 32 year old JAMES LIDDICOAT

JAMES LIDDICOAT was held overnight in a jail cell at the Balmoral Police Station.

LIDDICOAT appeared by video before Her Worship, Denette Ellard today, Friday July 10,2020 in Thunder Bay Bail Court.

He was formally arraigned on the following criminal charges:

  • -assault
  • -assault with a weapon (steak knife)
  • -assault causing bodily harm (tooth knocked out)
  • -utter threats to cause death

LIDDICOAT HAS NO CRIMINAL RECORD

LIDDICOAT has retained the services of local lawyer Tyler Hopkins

Provincial Crown Attorney Derrick Silvestro would not consent to the release of LIDDICOAT until all his firearms were surrendered. Public safety is paramount.

A relative of LIDDICOAT’S went to his residence and retrieved all his firearms to surrender at the TBPS station.

LIDDICOAT was released just before noon today on a $500 no deposit bail with conditions.

-no contact with victim
-no weapons
-surrender firearms license to police

His next court appearance is September 15,2020

Murders Thunder Bay vs other Ontario Cities

Thunder Bay maintained its title as the murder capital of Canada in 2018,  For the third consecutive year - and the fourth time in the last five years

 It has been announced again that Thunder Bay is the Murder Capital of Canada for 2018 in Canada for CMAs with populations between 100,000 to less than 500,000 people

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies, 

 

 

Thunder Bay is that the homicide rate for 2017 is down from 2016 when it stood at 6.62 per 100,000
