 UPDATE: Claude Justin KISHIQUEB, identified as Victim

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  - March 22, 2019  (LSN)  Claude Justin KISHIQUEB, 58, of Thunder Bay, has been identified as the victim of a homicide that took place Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

Claude’s identity is being released following the conclusions of a post-mortem examination and consultation with his family.

The scene in the 200 block of North Cumberland Street just east of Wolseley  is being released.
The investigation is ongoing.

 UPDATE: Nathaniel Austin WESLEY, 22, of Thunder Bay is charged

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  - March 21, 2019  (LSN)  Nathaniel Austin WESLEY has been charged with second-degree murder following a Wednesday evening incident on the city's north side that left one person dead and another injured.

Nathaniel Austin WESLEY, 22, of Thunder Bay is charged with:
• Second-Degree Murder
• Aggravated Assault
• Breach of Recognizance
• Breach of Probation

WESLEY appeared in court Thursday morning and was remanded into custody with a future date.

The name of the victim is being held pending the notification of next of kin.

The scene is being held and the investigation continues.

Thunder Bay Police officers responded to a North Cumberland Street address shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, following a report of a male on the ground.
The person who contacted 911 believed at the time that a baseball bat may have been used during an assault.

Police arrived on scene and located two male victims. The one victim became unresponsive and later pronounced deceased. The second victim was transported to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit in stable condition.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  - March 21, 2019  (LSN)  Thunder Bay Police officers responded to a North Cumberland Street address regarding a report of a male on the ground possibly beaten with a bat, shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, March 20. 

Police arrived on scene and located 2 male victims. The one victim became unresponsive and later pronounced deceased. The second victim was transported to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center with undisclosed injuries.

A 22 year old Thunder Bay man was arrested a short distance from the scene, has been arrested for:
Second degree murder
Aggravated assault
Breach of recognizance
Breach of probation

The accused is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
The name of the victim is being held pending the notification of next of kin.

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies, 

 

 

Thunder Bay is that the homicide rate for 2017 is down from 2016 when it stood at 6.62 per 100,000
