THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO   ~~~~~~~  August 20,2021 (LSNews)    A 90 day sentence for man with decades long criminal record

A 42 year old MICHAEL PETEL appeared by video from the Thunder Bay Jail today, Friday August 20,2021 in Plea Court before Her Honour, Justice Heather Pringle to plead guilty to a few criminal charges.


Hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers spotted MICHAEL PETEL driving a vehicle on March 3,2021. He has been disqualified from driving since 2014 and requires an ignition interlock alcohol detection device in order to drive. He’s guilty of driving while disqualified

MICHAEL PETEL was out with a an ex girlfriend and her mother on June 30,2021. He told her that “If i can’t have you, then no one can” and threatened to kill the woman. He’s guilty of utter threat to kill

The same woman was sleeping at her home in the on Arundel Street on July 2,2021. She woke up to find an intoxicated MICHEAL PETEL had broken into her home and got in bed with her. Hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers showed up quickly to make the arrest. PETEL is guilty of break and enter.


Provincial Crown Attorney Piera Pasloski and defence lawyer George Joseph have a joint submission for Her Honour to consider.

PETEL has been drinking for 10 years. His mother died in January and he’s been drinking more since then. PETEL has a Grade 11 education and a 19 year long criminal record.

He has been to several treatment programs for anger management and alcohol abuse. His last conviction was in 2018 for assaulting a police officer

A 90 day sentence plus 18 months probation is the joint submission plus 1000$ fine for the driving disqualified charge.

PETEL has spent 49 days at the Thunder Bay Jail which will be enhanced to 74 days of time. He has 16 days left in sentence. He will be statutorily released in 11 days.

PETEL has outstanding criminal charges of sexual assault & robbery. He’ll receive a 250$ no deposit bail so he can get out of jail. He still has future court dates for those charges. As per usual practice, the Director of Communications at TBPS along with his local taxpayer subsidized media buddies at TBLAZYWATCH & CBC refused to tell the public any of this.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies, 



Thunder Bay is that the homicide rate for 2017 is down from 2016 when it stood at 6.62 per 100,000
