WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO STABBING NICE STRANGER.

Who gave her a slice of Pizza

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO   ~~~~~~   May 7, 2021  (LSN)  A 25 year old CARINA SAKANEE appeared by video from the Thunder Bay Correctional Center today, Friday May 7,2021 in Plea Court before Her Honour, Justice Claudia Belda Perez. SAKANEE is pleading guilty to a few charges and others will be withdrawn as part of a plea deal. She was on 2 different probation orders at the time of her crimes

ADMITTED FACTS

CARINA SAKANEE attended the LCBO on Dawson Road twice and once on Cumberland Street between January 22, 2021 and March 21,2021 and stole $145 of alcohol. She’s guilty of 1 count of theft and 1 count of breaching her probation order from November 9,2020. All other charges were withdrawn

On March 21,2001 a very intoxicated CARINA SAKANEE approached a complete stranger eating pizza and asked him for a slice.

The kind stranger gave her a slice of pizza.

SAKANEE then pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the back.

She’s guilty of assault with a weapon (knife) and breaching her probation order of May 29,2020.

SAKANEE has been in custody since then and a joint submission of 6 months less enhanced time served is presented

GLADUE FACTORS AND SENTENCING
CARINA SAKANEE is a band member of the Neskantanga Indian Reserve, formerly known as Landsdowne House. She has 3 children that she does not have custody of She started drinking when she was 12 years old. Her parents went to what was known as Indian Day School.

She has a recent history of violence and failing to comply with court orders. She was so intoxicated that she does not remember stabbing the kind stranger who offered her food.

Justice Belda Perez accepts the joint submission of 6 months. The 38 days of custody is enhanced to 57 days, which leaves 4 months remaining. SAKANEE will be statutorily released in 80 days.

As per usual practice, the Director Of Communications at TBPS never told the public about a random person being stabbed.
