WANTED METRO MEAT THIEF ARRESTED

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  March 27, 2021  (LSN)  Hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers arrested a wanted meat thief last night, Friday March 26,2021.

A 53 year old VIRGINIA ROSE MACLAURIN was wanted on a warrant for over 2 years, but the Director of Communications at Thunder Bay Police never told the public. 

.  MACLAURIN has a history of theft and was featured on the now defunct Wanted Wednesday program in 2018.  But, the Director of Communications stopped notifying the public due to “COVID-19 concerns”. 

MACLAURIN was wanted since February 14,2019 on 2 warrants.

It’s alleged that  VIRGINIA ROSE MACLAURIN attended the Metro grocery store at 505 Arthur Street West on February 14,2019 and filled a shopping cart with $199.43 worth of meat.  MACLAURIN allegedly ignored the store manager as she loaded the meat in a vehicle and left.  Thunder Bay Police reviewed video footage of trhe incident and identified the thief to be VIRGINIA ROSE MACLAURIN.  An arrest warrant was issued.

It’s further alleged that on November 18,2019 that MACLAURIN went to the home of someone she knows and knocked on the door.  He allowed her in, they briefly talked and MACLAURIN indicated she needed to go to the store and grabbed his $300 winter jacket.  She ignored his requests to return with it.  He contacted Thunder Bay Police who investigated and issued a warrant for her arrest.

MACLAURIN spent last night in a jail cell at Balmoral Police Station and appeared in Bail Court today, Saturday March 27,2021 before a Justice of the Peace.  The Provincial Crown Attorney agreed to release MACLAURIN with conditions:

  • -report address to TBPS within 24 hours
  • -not to go to Metro Store at 505 Arthur Street West
  • -no contact with the victim of the coat theft

Her next court appearance is May 7,2021
