Victim of assault identified MISHKEEGOGAMANG Death

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO   ~~~~~  May 8, 2021  (LSN)  The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has confirmed that the victim of a serious assault has died as a result of injuries sustained in the assault.

The victim has been identified as 17 year old Lynnora MIKENAK (also known as Lynorra LAWSON) of Mishkeegogamang First Nation.

The investigation is now considered a homicide. The accused, 32 year old Jerry Fox,  remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance. Additional charges are pending.

Shortly after 7:00 a.m. on May 1, 2021, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to an assault at a Henry Street residence, requesting assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The victim was air-lifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing with the collaboration of NAPS, the OPP’s Northwest Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO   ~~~~~  May 2, 2021  (LSN)  Hardworking Nishnawbe Aski Police Officers responded to a very violent attack last evening, Saturday May 1,2021 on the MISHKEEGOGAMANG 63 Reserve (also known as Osnaburgh). Officers found a young woman who was severely injured by a man. The female victim was flown to Thunder Bay Hospital and is currently on life support. She is not expected to survive.

A 32 year old JERRY RYAN FOX was arrested and criminally charged with:

  • -aggravated assault endangering the life 

FOX was held overnight at the NAPS detachment and appeared by phone in Thunder Bay Bail Court this morning, Sunday May 2,2021 before Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Jennifer Neil.

Crown Attorney Natalie Nolan told the court that the victim’s injuries are very serious and that she is on life support. She is not expected to survive.

His charges will most likely be upgraded to murder if the victim’s condition changes. FOX is being remanded into custody and will be transported to the Kenora Jail. FOX is ordered to have no contact with the victim or 3 witnesses to this violent assault.

His next court appearance is Tuesday May 4,2021
