THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO – September 9, 2019 (LSN) 2nd Major Beating in Westfort Ward Tyler Mark Smith was seriously beaten after leaving Cheers on James Street. A person has seriously beaten on Centre Street a couple of weeks ago.
Tyler Mark Smith Is OK... BUT Tyler was assaulted last night while walking home from Cheers. The last thing he remembers was being inside Cheers and socializing at the bar. The nurse said the ambulance picked him up on Francis St., which makes little sense as Cheers is on Frederica St and we live on Frederica. I got a call just before 3 am from the hospital saying he had been assaulted. I immediately went to the hospital and when I got there the scene looked bad (first two pics). I stayed with him until he'd had all his scans and Xrays and it was confirmed that there was no swelling in his brain or internal bleeding. Then I went home to rest while they kept him to monitor a bit longer and administer his stitches. I went back to get him around 9 am. He's home and comfortable now and the final diagnosis is a fractured skull, fractured nose, bruised ribs, a severe concussion, some broken teeth and a few stitches in his mouth. There's no swelling in the brain or internal bleeding though, which is most important. He's expected to take some time off work and to fully recover. His wallet and phone were stolen, all has been reported, cards all cancelled and thankfully the phone has insurance. A police report has been made but he has no memory of it so we have no idea who did this to him. There is an investigation ongoing so hopefully, they find out. The main thing is he's going to be ok and for that, I'm so eternally grateful.
Tyler isn't a small man. He's 6'4" and over 200lbs. This can happen to ANYONE. Make sure you don't walk alone. Please take a cab or uride, do the buddy system, stay safe and tell your people you love them. ❤
