MARATHON WOMAN ARRESTED AGAIN

MARATHON WOMAN ARRESTED AGAIN

FOR CAUSING DISTURBANCE

MARATHON, ONTARIO ~~~   May 29, 2020  (LSN)   Hardworking Marathon OPP responded last evening, Thursday, May 28, 2020 to a disturbance outside a home on Birch Street. 

A woman was outside the home scream vulgarities at the people inside. 

When OPP tried to arrest her, she resisted, but OPP ultimately prevailed. 

A 53 year old DARLENE BALL of Marathon was arrested and criminally charged with:

  • -causing a disturbance 
  • -resist police
  • -breach of probation X 2

BALL spent the night in a jail cell at the Marathon OPP detachment 

She appeared by audio in Thunder Bay Bail Court this morning, Friday May 29,2029 before Her Worship, Justice of the Peace Zelda Kitchekeesic. 

BALL was just placed on probation May 19,2020 and she has a criminal history of breaching court orders. (see below). 

Provincial Crown Attorney Heather Bracken is not consenting to the release of BALL.  

BALL is being transported to the Thunder Bay Correctional Center. 

She has another court appearance on Monday June 1,2020

MARATHON WOMAN RELEASED FROM JAIL IN TIME FOR HER BIRTHDAY

A 52 YEAR OLD DARLENE BALL SENTENCED TO TIME SERVED OF 14 DAYS AND 15 MONTHS PROBATION 

JUSTICE VALENTE ORDERS 12 MONTH $ 250 PEACE BOND AGAINST DARLENE BALL WHO HAS SIGNIFICANT CRIMINAL RECORD. 

Appearing from the Thunder before His Honour, Justice Frank Valente today, Tuesday May 19,2020 is 52 year old (she turns 53 tomorrow) DARLENE BALL. 

BALL is pleading guilty to:

  • -fail to comply with undertaking X 2

 

BALL is represented by criminal defence lawyer Kate Brindley. 

ADMITTED FACTS

On March 18,2020, the hardworking Marathon OPP Officers responded to a call at a a Hemlo Drive apartment regarding a woman who had damaged an apartment door.  

DARLENE BALL was on undertaking conditions from October 2019 to stay away from the person who resided there. She was arrested and released. 

On May 11,2020 mental health workers went to check on DARLENE BALL. They did not find her in her home, she was found seated in the apartment of the person she’s not supposed to be in contact with. OPP were contacted and BALL was arrested and sent to the Thunder Bsy Correctional Center. 

A mischief charge (damaged door) against BALL is dropped in exchange for a $250 12 month peace bond 

SENTENCING 

His Honour, Justice Valente notes that BALL has a ‘significant’ multipage criminal record with numerous breaches of court orders. Her first criminal conviction is June 2007 and her last conviction entry was 2019. 

She suffers from PTSD, anxiety and chronic depression and uses alcohol to medicate for past 20 years. She has a 10 year old son in foster care and she is not employed. 

A joint submission for time served plus 15 months probation is accepted by His Honour. 

BALL has been in custody 9 real days which is enhanced to 14 days. 

BALL was released from the Thunder Bay Correctional Center this afternoon.
