Male Charged with Possessing ID of Another Person

SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO  February 13, 2020  (LSN) Male Charged with Possessing ID of Another Person  Approved by: 260 - February 13, 2020

On February 12, 2020 officers with Patrol Services arrested 51-year-old Darin Layden for possession of identity documents of another person.

It’s alleged on February 8, 2020 the accused stole a wallet from a vehicle containing identity documents and bank cards. It is further alleged on February 12, 2020 the accused entered a vehicle and stole various items. Both of these incidents took place in the 0-100 block of Bay Street.

On February 12, 2020 security staff of a business in the 0-100 block of Bay Street recognized the accused and held him for police. Police arrived and arrested the accused. A subsequent search found him to be in possession of the bank card and ID from the victim from the incident on February 8, 2020.

When the accused was taken back to the police station it was learned he was wanted in connection to a theft that took place on October 19, 2019. It is alleged the accused stole a wallet containing a bank card. He then went on to make three transactions at area businesses of approximately $388, and was denied at a fourth business. 

He is charged with one count of possession of ID of another person, three counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of stolen property, four counts of use of a stolen credit card, one count of theft of a credit card and three counts of breach of recognizance. He was held for bail court.
