CONMEE MAN FINED $2200 FOR DRUNKEN VEHICLE ROLLOVER
THUNDE BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~ June 7, 2022 (LSNews) A 20 year old JONAH ADAMS appeared by Zoom video today, Tuesday June 7,2022 before Her Honour, Justice Danalyn Mackinnon today, Tuesday June 7,2022 to plead guilty to an drunk driving rollover.
ADMITTED FACTS
OPP were called by JONAH ADAMS on November 5,2021 around 1pm to report he had rolled his vehicle over on Holland Road in Conmee. The OPP dispatcher receiving the call noticed the caller sounded under the influence of alcohol.
OPP were on the scene at 1:34pm and spotted the vehicle rolled over in the ditch. The driver, JONAH ADAMS was seated in a van nearby with his grandfather, Paul Rotherberg.
ADAMS told OPP Officers that he had swerved to miss a deer.
OPP Officers noted that ADAMS was under the influence of alcohol and smelled of alcohol.
ADAMS told OPP Officers “ Do what you gotta do”
ADAMS was arrested at 1:37pm and brought to Thunder Bay Hospital to ensure he wasn’t injured as a result of vehicle rollover.
At 3:05pm he was brought to the OPP detachment and took a breathalyzer exam.
At 3:35pm, ADAMS blew a .203 blood alcohol reading
At 4:00pm, ADAMS blew a .208 blood alcohol reading.
ADAMS is guilty of having a blood alcohol reading over .08
JOINT SUBMISSION
Provincial Crown Attorney Afton Brown & Defence lawyer Francis Thatcher have a joint submission for Her Honour to consider.
ADAMS has no criminal record until today. He lives with his grandparents and stopped drinking after this incident. He also lost lost his job at the time. But he will be starting a new job soon as an apprentice sheet metal worker.
ADAMS tells the court “I’m sorry for my conduct”
Her Honour Mackinnon tells ADAMS he’s very fortunate not to have killer himself or others drinking so much alcohol in the middle of the day.
A $2200 fine is ordered plus a one year driving prohibition.
ADAMS has 12 months to pay the fine.
