CAREY SENIUK ARRESTED FOR FLARE GUN SHOOT OUT WITH TBPS OFFICERS

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~~  June 9, 2021  (LSN)  Hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers were called just before 8 pm on Monday, June 7, 2021 regarding a disturbance.

Officers arrived and found a 53 year old CAREY SENIUK in Apartment 309 creating a disturbance.

SENIUK told police that he was bi-polar and not taking his medication. He also stated he had no problem with death or killing people.

SENIUK also threatened to throw boiling oil at officers.

A standoff ensued between SENIUK and police.

Residents of nearby apartments were evacuated by police as officers began negotiations with the male. Streets in the area were also blocked to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

At about 1:45 am on Tuesday, June 8, police noted a strong odour of gasoline coming from the apartment and leaking into the hallway near other apartment units.

The Emergency Task Unit immediately took action and entered the apartment 309.

SENIUK fired a flare gun toward police.

The accused was taken into custody following a brief struggle and arrested at 1:53am

Several units with the Thunder Bay Police Service were involved in this call for service. Paramedics with the Superior North EMS and firefighters with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue were also dispatched to the scene for emergency assistance.

SENIUK was brought to the Thunder Bay Hospital where he remains and appeared in court this morning, Wednesday June 9,2021 before Her Worship, Justice Of The Peace Sonia Aleong.

SENIUK has 4 criminal charges:

  • -mischief pouring gasoline
  • -mischief willfully damaging Apt 309
  • -endanger lives of TBPS Officers
  • -breach of probation

A mental health assessment was ordered. SENIUK remains in custody and has another court appearance on June 16,2021.
