Human Remains Identified

Body found off highway 527

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO July 28, 2020 (LSN)  On the 13th of May 2020, at approximately 3:00pm officers of the Thunder Bay OPP detachment responded to a report of human remains in the Wasp Road area which is an Unorganized area north of Highway 11/17 and west of Highway 527. The remains were located by a forest area worker and reported to the police.

The scene was secured by police. The Northwest Region Crime Unit, the Forensic Identification unit, and a forensic anthropologist from Toronto attended to assist with the investigation.

 

 

The human remains have been positively identified as those of Edward TREMBLAY of Thunder Bay, ON. The deceased was last seen on July 7, 2019 and was subject of an extensive search by the Thunder Bay OPP and Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS). The cause of death has not been determined, pending the coroner's examination.

This is the 2nd time a body was found on Highway 227

SHUNIAH, ONTARIO - March 21,, 2019   (LSN)  -  OPP released the identity Samatar Warsame as the murder victim who was found dead on the shoulder of Highway 527 on January 13, 2019.

The body of 21-year-old Samatar Warsame, from the Greater Toronto Area, was found on the highway just north of the Highway 11/17 junction in Shuniah on Jan. 13.

The OPP, who are investigating the death as a homicide, had previously not released the identity in an effort to protect the integrity of the investigation.

The Thunder Bay Police Service is providing new details into the missing person investigation of Edward ‘Eddie’ Tremblay, 35, in hopes the public may assist in locating him.

Edward may have been in the 1300 block area of Hilldale Road on Sunday, July 7,2019 at about 3 a.m. He was last seen on York Street on July at about 2 a.m. Sunday, July 7, 2019 Following are new clothing descriptors investigators have been provided:

• Grey sweater with a zipper up the middle
• Green T-shirt with a Toronto Blue Jays emblem
• Black shoes with light blue stitching
• Faded light blue jeans

Edward is described as a Caucasian male standing about 5’11” and weighing about 230 pounds. He has curly brown hair, a dark brown full beard with a moustache, and brown eyes.

The Thunder Bay Police Service’s K-9 Unit and Unmanned Aircraft System (Drone) have been deployed to assist in the search of Edward.

Edward was believed to have been in the 1300 block area of Hilldale Road on Sunday, July 7 2019at about 3 a.m. He was wearing:
• Grey sweater with a zipper up the middle
• Green T-shirt with a Toronto Blue Jays emblem
• Black shoes with light blue stitching
• Faded light blue jeans
Edward is described as a Caucasian male standing about 5’11” and weighing about 230 pounds. He has curly brown hair, a dark brown full beard with a moustache, and brown eyes.
The public should consider that Edward’s appearance may have changed since then. He may have much longer hair, thicker facial hair and a lighter build.
The combined efforts by investigators and officers of the Thunder Bay Police Service and the OPP in July were extensive. The OPP has since conducted further searches of the area.
the case remains open and active.
Police and Mr. TREMBLAY’s family are still hoping for new information to come forward to assist in locating him.

Murders Thunder Bay vs other Ontario Cities

Thunder Bay maintained its title as the murder capital of Canada in 2018,  For the third consecutive year - and the fourth time in the last five years

 It has been announced again that Thunder Bay is the Murder Capital of Canada for 2018 in Canada for CMAs with populations between 100,000 to less than 500,000 people

Thunder Bay had the highest rate in that category with 6.38 homicides per 100,000.

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies,
