Marks 35 years since the murder of teenager Bernadette LeClair

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~   August 8, 2022 (LSNews)  This weekend marks 35 years since teenager Bernadette LeClair was raped & murdered by double murderer Larry Runholm.

Runholm was convicted at age 35 in January 2003 after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the deaths of Donna Tebbenham and Bernadette LeClair, both 16, in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Runholm was sentenced to life without parole for 20 years. But with credit for time served, he is now eligible for parole.

He attempted to appeal after his guilty plea, but the appeal court didn’t budge

RIP DONNA & BERNADETTE.

This was and still is my best friend .. her and I were at an AA dance that nighf at the Labour Center we were just teens her brother Byron was the DJ.. she took off on me and went up Red River rd .. the last to hear from her .. she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen .. she is missed greatly 😢 😔 😭 the way he threw her away in the pits like she was a piece of trash ... 👋 KARMA will turn full circle 🔵 thanks for posting this as well .. you have touched my soul greatly today !!! Thank u so so very much 💓 💗 this GUY can ROT in hell as far as I am concerned 😟.. Bernadette didn't deserve this at all.. she wasn't a girl who lead a high risk life style at all.. she was an innocent teen.. I spent my childhood growing up with her ..

Tried to find you who the Chief was when this happen but as part of Sylvia's (Chief Sylvie Hauth was suspended following news the Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC), a provincial watchdog agency, would hold a hearing into "serious allegations" of misconduct) anti Police project the  Photos of  the former Police Chief were removed and the list of their names removed from the Police Website

Thunder Bay maintained its title as the murder capital of Canada in 2018,  For the third consecutive year - and the fourth time in the last five years

 It has been announced again that Thunder Bay is the Murder Capital of Canada for 2018 in Canada for CMAs with populations between 100,000 to less than 500,000 people

Thunder Bay had the highest rate in that category with 6.38 homicides per 100,000.

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies, 

 

 

Thunder Bay is that the homicide rate for 2017 is down from 2016 when it stood at 6.62 per 100,000

Greater Sudbury's murder rate is  remains one of the lowest in Canada. murder rate was 0.61 per 100,000 people
