HOME INVADING CRACK HEAD FLAG THIEF SENTENCED TWO YEARS LESS A DAY

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~  June 15, 2022 (LSNews)  A  51 year old SHAWN JAMES WADE PRATT appeared by video from the Correctional Center today, Wednesday June 15,2022 before Justice Vince Scaramuzza to plead guilty to a variety of crimes.

ADMITTED FACTS

PRATT was on probation and stole $581 worth of food from Westfort Food in 2021.

He’s guilty of breach of probation & theft under $5000.

PRATT was captured on video October 25,2021  stealing an orange “Every Child Matters” flag from the 800 block of Gore Street West.

The flag was the property of the Gull Bay Reserve

PRATT is guilty of theft under $5000.

PRATT was with Galloway Boys gang member ANTHONY TALBERT in the early morning hours of October 28,2021 when he was used as a decoy to purchase drugs from another Toronto drug dealer at apartment in Thunder Bay subsidized housing at 230 Amelia Street West.

Once the dealer opened the door, PRATT entered followed by TALBERT with a loaded shotgun.  A struggle for the shotgun ensued inside the unit between the dealers. TALBERT was upset about another gangster taking over his drug dealing turf.

Amazingly, no shots were fired and TALBERT was arrested shortly after. Thunder Bay Police arrested several drug dealers and criminals as well as retrieving the shotgun.

PRATT is guilty of:

  • -unlawfully in a dwelling house
  • -possession of weapon dangerous to public
  • -forcible entry
  • -unauthorized possession of firearm
  • -possession of firearm while prohibited

JOINT SUBMISSION

Provincial Crown Attorney Thomas Budd & Defence Lawyer Michael Hargadon have a joint submission for His Honour, Justice Scaramuzza to consider.

PRATT has a criminal record spanning 32 years. He has numerous drug offences on his record. He moved to Toronto in 1998 and moved back to Thunder Bay in 2005. His most recent criminal convictions in Thunder Bay were in 2020 for break & enter, endangering life, & mischief.

PRATT is a crack head for many years. He was high on crack when he stole the “EVERY CHILD MATTERS” flag & has no memory of it. He participated in the home invasion at Spence Court as a result of being a crack head.

It’s poposed that a two year less a day sentence plus three years probation be ordered. PRATT has effectively served six months which will leave him with another 18 months less a day to serve.

Justice Scaramuzza asks PRATT if he has anything to say.  PRATT responds “No”

His Honour tells PRATT “ You must be tired, you’re getting to old for this. You’ll have some time to reflect on your actions”

Justice Scaramuzza accepts the joint submission and sentences PRATT to another 18 months less a day going forward. PRATT will be statutorily released in one year’s time.

A 3 year probation & lifetime weapons prohibition along with DNA are ordered.

TBP Media Relations Coordinator Scott Paradis refused to identify the person arrested for the flag theft.
