Marshall Bluegrass Festival 24th year

at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds

MARSHALL, MICHIGAN  ~~~~~~  April 21, 2021   (LSN)  Celebrating 24 years of bluegrass, gospel, and country music, the Marshall Bluegrass Festival is one of Michigan’s long-standing favorites among traditional bluegrass music lovers.  Festival-goers will celebrate the 24th event July 23-31, 2021, at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds in historic Marshall, Michigan.  The festival’s founding promoter Burke Cole’s love of the classic sounds of bluegrass spurred the festival’s mantra of “time-honored tradition.”   The thread of that theme still runs true.

Through the years, Marshall Bluegrass Festival has played host to national touring favorites The James King Band and the Gold Wing Express, as well as regional favorites Aubrey Holt & The Wildwood Valley Boys and Audie Blalock & Redline.

It’s common in bluegrass that the traditions and the music are often handed down from generation to generation.  In 2013, at Burke Cole’s passing, the Marshall Bluegrass Festival found itself in the very capable hands of Burke’s nephew, Jeremie Cole.  Bluegrass music runs deep and true for Jeremie Cole and he’s ever mindful of honoring the traditional sound of the music, while at the same time also embracing the change necessary for the bluegrass music genre to continue growing.

Most recently, Jeremie Cole has brought some of the top touring bluegrass groups to the Marshall Bluegrass Festival stage.  The award-winning Sideline, Volume Five, Kenny & Amanda Smith, and the late, great Steve Gulley have most recently graced the Marshall stage.  In addition, Jeremie Cole also supports regional touring groups hiring some of the best of the Midwest, with the likes of New Outlook, the Ottawa County Bluegrass Band, Larry Efaw & The Bluegrass Mountaineers, the Kevin Prater Band, and Ohio’s Harbourtown, which features Dana Cupp, Jr., on banjo.

The 2021 Marshall Bluegrass Festival promises to be another hit for bluegrass lovers.  Cole has booked a a solid mix of regional bands, as well as some of the top names in the bluegrass biz.  Highlights for this year’s festival include the Edgar Loudermilk Band, the Caleb Daugherty Band, and the Clay Hess Band, featuring the award-winning Ron Block on banjo.

Edgar Loudermilk, a descendant of the famous Louvin Brothers, is well known as the bass and harmony singer who toured for nine years with Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, before striking out on his own in 2015.  Loudermilk’s singer/songwriter success is evident on repeatedly hitting the Top 20 on the bluegrass charts with several of his self-penned songs.  From coast to coast and throughout Canada, when the Edgar Loudermilk Band steps out on stage, bluegrass, gospel, and even an old swing tune or two from the 40’s keeps audiences’ toes tapping.

The Caleb Daugherty Band is a regional favorite that’s quickly becoming a national hit.  One of the highlights of Indiana’s Caleb Daugherty’s music career would have to include when the CMA award-winning Lorrie Morgan invited him to sing Keith Whitley’s music on the Grand Ole Opry stage for the Keith Whitley Tribute performance.  Caleb’s notoriety of covering Whitley’s music has been well known throughout the Midwest and when Lorrie Morgan heard him, the invitation was extended.  In the past couple of years, Caleb made the move to step out on his own, fronting his own successful chart-topping band, the Caleb Daugherty Band.

The Clay Hess Band, featuring Ron Block on banjo is sure to be a hit with this year’s Marshall Bluegrass Festival audience.  Band leader Clay Hess’ background includes a three-year stint playing guitar for the award-winning Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder.  Since leaving the Kentucky Thunder, Hess has gathered an arsenal of young guns and seasoned performers, with the most notable being Ron Block on banjo.  Block is best known for his years spent performing with Alison Krauss & Union Station.  In addition, Block has 14 Grammy Awards to his name, as well as numerous International Bluegrass Music Association awards and honors, CMA awards, and Dove awards. Audiences should also keep an eye on Jacob Metz on resonator guitar.  Metz is currently in the East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass, Old Time, & Country Music program and has earned a coveted spot with the ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band.

In addition to outstanding stage talent, the Marshall Bluegrass Festival is a weeklong event that boasts family-friendly activities, as well as plenty of room to party, enjoy campground jamming, and enjoy the historic Marshall, Michigan, area.  This year’s festival includes a Country Dance Night, giving festival attendees the chance to kick up their dancing heels to the live music of the Bootleg Band.  Festival goers will also get a chance to stand and deliver on Wednesday night for the lively Bluegrass & Country Karaoke Night.  Promoter Jeremie Cole has a variety of activities planned—bingo, euchre tournament, two cornhole tournaments, a closest-to-the pin for golfers, ladies’ poker run, and more!

Promoter Jeremie Cole and the Marshall Bluegrass Festival team invite you join the fun, July 23-31, 2021.  Follow the Marshall Bluegrass Festival on Facebook or visit their website www.marshallbluegrassfestival.com for additional information regarding tickets, camping, activities, etc.
