Chippewa County Health Department COVID-19 Vaccine Update

Allocated to War Memorial Hospital and CCHD will allow for additional clinics

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MICHIGAN  ~~~~~~ January 20, 2021  (LSN)  – Chippewa County Health Department (CCHD) received notification that the amount of vaccine being allocated to War Memorial Hospital and CCHD will allow for additional clinic

Vaccination clinics for the week of January 18 are being held by appointment-only for critical infrastructure employees (scheduled through their employers), individuals receiving their second round of Moderna vaccine, and individuals aged 65 and older.

CCHD staff are currently working through more than eight hundred phone and online appointment requests. This number is down from 1,500 when the phone and online registration opened the first week of January.

In an effort to vaccinate people that have been on the wait list for several weeks, a large vaccination clinic will be held at Lake Superior State University on Friday, January 22nd . Community partners that are working together to provide vaccines include: War Memorial Hospital, LSSU, Bay Mills Health Center, and Chippewa County EMS. This is a closed clinic; walk-ins will not be accommodated. Only those with appointments made by the Chippewa County Health Department will be served.

Future appointments for those aged 65 and older may be scheduled via the Chippewa County Health Department website: CCHD is providing vaccination by appointment only, in order to avoid long lines and to ensure an adequate supply of vaccine. No walk-in appointments will be accepted.

If you have limited access to the Internet, please call 906-635-3572, Option 1 to schedule an appointment. This is a message-only number. Please include in your phone message: first and last name of those requesting an appointment, date(s) of birth, and return telephone number – please do not leave additional information. Please avoid calling if you can access the online system so phone lines can remain open for those with no help available.

Due to the extraordinarily high number of eligible individuals in the current phase(s), it could be several weeks before you receive an appointment time. We are asking the public to have continued patience as we work through our priority groups with limited vaccine availability.

This is a rapidly evolving situation. Further information will be shared when updates are available. Visit the health department website at and follow us on social media @ChippewaCountyHealth. ###
