Auditions set for Sister Act

Auditions set for Sister Act

Badanai Theatre Sister Act, the Broadway musical

#LSN_Arts

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  -  September 9, 2019  (LSN)  Last fall almost 100 local amateur singers and actors lined up for their chance to be part of the local staging of Mamma Mia. This year, Badanai Theatre’s winter offering is another crowd-pleasing fare, Sister Act, the Broadway musical. Sister Act is based on the iconic movie of the same name, this sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of the disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. Featuring original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted), dazzling dance routines and heavenly fun songs, Sister Act is the funniest and funkiest musical around.

When asking the production team why they picked Sister Act to follow up last  year’s box office sold out hit of Mamma Mia, co-director Candi Badanai said “that we wanted to continue to find more ways  for new people to come experience creating musical theatre – and this show (Sister Act) allows community members of all ages to play a part.” She added that “being able to be part of a community theatre production is a magical experience and one that we pride ourselves in being able to provide a safe and fun atmosphere that anyone truly can have the opportunity to be in the limelight or tread the boards as they say in the theatre.”

As a vibrate theatre troupe, Badanai Theatre also prides itself on the collaborative and creative nature of their high-quality local productions. “We are very fortunate to have an amazing amount of talent in Thunder Bay and when they are given the opportunity to come together – magic happens onstage,” said Spencer Hair, another creative leader in the troupe. “You never know who is going to come audition, and when they do, you see and hear fabulous people who may never of been given the chance to shine yet onstage.” The production team are already busy, visualising how to set this musical comedy masterpiece and fine-tuning everything to work in the intimate staging of the Paramount Theatre. The only thing missing is a vivacious cast....

Here is your chance to audition for this years’ musical community theatre production and work with a great group of people. Auditions for Sister Act are on Wednesday, September 11th from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturday, September 14 from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm at the Paramount Theatre (24 Court St S). These are open auditions to the public with all roles open including the 16 character roles and a terrific ensemble. Everyone is welcome to audition (18+ or at directors’ discretion). They only ask that you to be prepared to sing a short part of a musical theatre song of your choice and do a cold reading. “It’s really simple and set up to be less intimidating so that everyone may have the opportunity to try out” said Candi Badanai. Badanai invites everyone to come out and join the fun on their new fun theatrical adventure. For further information, check out their event page on Facebook at facebook.com/badanaitheatre/
