A Filing Extension and New Rules for Service of Tax Petitions

COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA ~ March 30, 2020  (LSN) On Saturday, March 28, Governor Walz signed legislation extending the time for filing property tax petitions for contesting 2019 value or classification to May 30, 2020.

In another move to aid in following social distancing rules recommended by public health experts, Cook County will waive personal service of property tax petitions contesting 2019 value or classification so long as property owners meet certain conditions.

SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO  ~  March 28, 2020  (LSN)  Recently, Algoma Public Health (APH) notified the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service about fraudulent activity where individuals are posing as Public Health Inspectors from APH.

On at least two occasions local restaurants have received calls from someone claiming to be a Public Health Inspector offering to inspect the restaurant for a fee. Neither of the potential victims accepted the offer and notified APH.

“Stay at Home” Is Not A Recommendation

COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA ~ March 28, 2020  (LSN) Beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 27, all those living in Minnesota are ordered by the governor to "stay at home."   The Executive Order signed March 25 is justified by Governor Walz's emergency powers under the COVID-19 state of emergency and is consistent with federal guidelines limiting gatherings of more than 10 people. "Limiting activities to only those which are most essential and practicing social distancing at all times are vital tools required to mitigate the community spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota and Nationwide," the Order asserts.

Thunder Bay Police Service’s Cyber Crimes Unit

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO March 25, 2020 - 15:50  (LSN)  Police Media Release States: Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Cyber Crimes Unit began an investigation into alleged online activity involving suspected images of child pornography on March 16, 2020.

Police learned the images were uploaded by a local Internet user. As a result of their ongoing investigation, police were able to identify a 24-year-old male suspect.

Police executed a search warrant at a home in the 800 block of Melbourne Road on March 24.

OPP Downtown Sioux Lookout

SIOUX LOOKOUT, ONTARIO  ~~ March 25, 2020  (LSN)  Members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a string of graffiti tagging incidents that have occurred in the Municipality over the past three days.

Public and private buildings and infrastructure in the downtown area, Third Avenue North, and Fifth Avenue North, have been vandalized with black and/or orange spray paint. Police are looking to speak with an individual wearing a red hoodie and black pants who was in the downtown area around 10:00 pm on March 24, 2020,

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO March 24, 2020 - 12:30 (LSN)  Police Media Release States: The Thunder Bay Police Service continues to investigate the early-morning homicide of Adrian Kadeem DRYSDALE, 28, of Toronto.

Officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to a residential address in the 500 block of North May Street just after 2:30 a.m. on Monday, March 23 following reports of a disturbance and an injured male.

When officers arrived they located DRYSDALE, who had suffered serious injuries that appeared consistent with a serious assault.
