Thunder Bay maintained its title as the murder capital of Canada in 2018,  For the third consecutive year - and the fourth time in the last five years

The city reported the second-highest score under the national violent crime severity index, at 159.7, trailing only Winnipeg (161.4) in the category, which measures the overall volume and severity of the violent crime. The figure is nearly double the Canadian average of 82.4 among census metropolitan areas.

On a per-capita basis, Thunder Bay Police investigate missing person reports at a rate nearly five times higher than their counterparts in Toronto.
Figures released this week by the Thunder Bay Police Service show there were 850 missing person reports last year, or about 732 per 100,000 population.

In 2018, 44 people died of opioid overdose in Thunder Bay.

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies,

Very High Fire Danger Across Wisconsin

MADISON, WISCONSIN  ~~~~~~~~  May 14, 2021  (LSN)  The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking the public to stay vigilant and avoid burning because of very high fire danger across Wisconsin, particularly in the northern two-thirds of the state.

The increased fire danger is due to the low relative humidities expected across the state, with the lowest values expected across northern Wisconsin. Temperatures will be warm and the air over Wisconsin will be dry, which are weather conditions that aid in the spread of fires.
