Thunder Bay Museum hosting a traveling exhibit on the Holocaust

And in 1948, I came to Canada”: The Holocaust in Six Dates

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~  March 1, 2022 (LSNews) The Thunder Bay Museum would like to announce that we are hosting a traveling exhibit from the Montreal Holocaust Museum titled “And in 1948, I came to Canada”: The Holocaust in Six Dates.  The exhibit raises awareness about the genocide of the Jews by presenting its history and reflecting on the impacts of racism and discrimination in our society.  

.  It commemorates the victims of the Holocaust and honours the survivors who made Canada their new home.  The exhibit will be available to the public on the Museum’s second floor from April 6, 2022 until June 26, 2022. 

The Museum, in partnership with the Shaarey Shomayim Congregation of Thunder Bay has, developed a wide range of complimentary programming for patrons to partake in while the exhibit is in Thunder Bay.  The list of special events is below and preregistration and/or tickets for events can be found here: https://thunderbaymuseum1.wildapricot.org/Member-Events

  • 11 April – Exhibit Opening Reception - “And in 1948, I came to Canada”: The Holocaust in Six Dates
  • 27 April – Virtual Lecture - Dr. Valerie Hébert - 'Nothing is to be gained by creating an internal problem in an effort to meet an International one': Canada's Response to the Jewish Refugee Crisis
  • 10-12 May – Concert Series – A Song Rings Out: Lost Composers of the Holocaust
    • Chamber music concerts featuring works by Jewish composers impacted by the Holocaust.  These concerts are being arranged by Michelle Zapf-Belanger, Section Violinist with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. 
  • 19 May – Lecture - Mark Scharf - Child of Holocaust Survivors

There will also be programming available for the schools to partake in through field trips, virtual programs, and lesson plans.

The exhibition looks at the history of the Holocaust and the Second World War through six key dates, as well as Canada’s reaction to these events.

  • 1933 Nazi rise to power and anti-Jewish laws
  • 1939 Beginning of the war and creation of ghettos
  • 1941 Invasion of the USSR and mass murders by mobile killing units
  • 1942 Deportation to the death camps
  • 1943 Resistance

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~~  September 15, 2022 (LSNews)  Inside Edition sources indicate that hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers have arrested a local white male yesterday, Wednesday September 14,2022.

The arrest was made after an investigation regarding multiple counts of child molestation. It’s alleged that three different young girls have been molested by the white male suspect.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~  September 14, 2022 (LSNews)  A 23 year KEEYLEIGH KIANNA THOMPSON was ordered released on $250 no deposit bail today, Wednesday, September 14,2022.

A 911 call came in at 10:15pm on Monday September 5,2022 from the Dragon’s Den on Dawson Road. A woman identified as KEEYLEIGH THOMPSON was asked to leave the bar because of a dispute. THOMPSON allegedly grabbed a chair and heaved it through a window at the entrance to the bar.

EARL FALLS, ONTARIO  ~~~~~  September 14, 2022 (LSNews)  Constable J. Eppinghaus reports that on September 7th, 2022, members of the Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 105 within the Township of Ear Falls.

During the investigation, the occupants of the motor vehicle were found to be in possession of controlled substances and further placed under arrest.

The 53-year-old has been a long-time client at the Fort Frances Family Centre, and credits the facility for his recovery.
TBNewsWatch in their story go on to say "Although the clients who use the Family Centre are grateful for the service, it hasn’t existed without controversy. Although it’s nestled against the CN rail line, and housed in the old CN station, residential homes line the opposite side of the street.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~~~  September 11, 2022 (LSNews)   The UK has banned doctors from giving the COVID-19 vaccine to children under 12, saying kids don’t need it and they likely already have natural immunity.

“The immediate benefits of vaccination in this age group are likely to be small because children are at low risk from COVID-19 infection, and by February 2022 almost all children in this age group will already have been infected with COVID-19,” a September 4 government statement reads.
