Canada border closure extended to April 21

Canada border closure extended to April 21

One year Anniversary

OTTAWA, ONTARIO February 19, 2021  (LSN)  Canada’s borders to the United States will remain closed to non-essential travelers until at least April. 21 as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Essential workers such as health care professionals, airline crews and truck drivers are still allowed to cross back and forth across the border.

The border extension announced February 19 means the U.S./Canada border will have been closed to non-essential travel for a year in March.

“Non-essential travel restrictions with the United States have been extended until March 21st, 2021,” Canada’s minister of public safety Bill Blair announced in a February 19 tweet. “We will continue to base our decisions on the best public health advice available to keep Canadians safe from #COVID19.”

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security also announced the border extension in a tweet that said essential travel and trade will remain open. The border closure, which first went into effect March 21, 2020 to contain the spread of Covid-19, extends to the U.S./Mexico border as well.
