Thunder Bay maintained its title as the murder capital of Canada in 2018,  For the third consecutive year - and the fourth time in the last five years


The city reported the second-highest score under the national violent crime severity index, at 159.7, trailing only Winnipeg (161.4) in the category, which measures the overall volume and severity of the violent crime. The figure is nearly double the Canadian average of 82.4 among census metropolitan areas. 

On a per-capita basis, Thunder Bay Police investigate missing person reports at a rate nearly five times higher than their counterparts in Toronto.
Figures released this week by the Thunder Bay Police Service show there were 850 missing person reports last year, or about 732 per 100,000 population.

 In 2018, 44 people died of opioid overdose in Thunder Bay.

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies,

Sudbury  By comparison, between 2007 and 2016, Sudbury's homicide rate averaged 1.15 a year. Canada has a whole had a rate of 1.80 in 2017, with the 10-year average sitting at 1.67.
Thunder  Bay   Thunder Bay had the highest rate 2018 with 6.38 homicides per 100,000.

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA ````````   September 15, 2021 (LSNews)  U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized the second of two shipments of counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination cards in Pittsburgh on September 7.

The two international mail parcels contained a combined 70 fake COVID vaccination cards. CBP officers seized the first parcel of 20 cards on August 24 after they determined that the cards presented a low-quality appearance and that they were being imported by a consignee who is not from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or a certified medical entity.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~~September 14, 2021  (LSNews)  The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are warning the public of the recent increase in drug overdoses in the North West Region. Concerns have been raised that there could be a potential batch of fatal street drugs circulating in the area.

"Fentanyl is an extremely potent synthetic opioid. You can't see it. You can't smell it. You can't taste it. Fentanyl can be lethal in small quantities. If someone's drug choice is mixed with or contains fentanyl, it can potentially kill them." Detective Staff Sgt. Curtis Peckford
