WTIP Announces Lineup for 15th Annual Radio Waves Music Festival

COOK COUNTY, MINNESOTA ~~~~~  April 13, 2022 (LSNews)  Grand Marais, WTIP Community Radio is thrilled to announce the lineup for the 2022 Radio Waves Music Festival, Sept. 9 to 11, at Sweetheart’s Bluff in the Grand Marais Recreation Area. This marks the 15th year of this family-friendly festival, which features an array of diverse local and regional acts that span musical genres from folk singer-songwriters, classic country, R & B, rap and alt-rock to funk, zydeco and New Orleans jazz. The event showcases three days of live music under the big sky and bright stars on the North Shore of Lake Superior

Twenty-two acts will take the stage at this year’s festival, with nine new to the festival, including Ginger Bones, Dre AKA Jamaican, Echoes from Iron Ore and Superior Siren. The weekend will also feature performances by a number of regional performers, including: Barbara Jean Meyers & Mike Lewis, Sam Miltich with Briand Morrison & the Clearwater Hot Club, Rich Mattson & the Northstars, The Evening Stars, The Splints, Cryote, Colleen “Boss Mama” Myhre, and New Salty Dog.

The complete music lineup is online at wtip.org – just look for “Radio Waves Music Festival” under the EVENTS drop-down menu. Festival hours are Friday, 3 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m

A favorite of visitors and area residents as well as performing musicians, Radio Waves is held rain or shine - with two stages housed under a large tent - and includes on-site food vendors. WTIP offers pre-sale weekend passes online. Admission, also available at the gate, is $15 per day on Friday and Saturday, $10 on Sunday, or $30 for the full Festival. Admission is free to children 12 and under. Campsite reservations at the Grand Marais Rec Park are recommended.

The Radio Waves Music Festival is made possible in part with funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, with additional support from Visit Cook County, the Gunflint Trail Association and the Grand Marais Area Tourism Association.

SIOUX LOOKOUT, ONTARIO   ~~~~  June 7, 2022  (LSNews)  On June 6, 2022 at approximately 5:45 pm CDT, hardworking Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Officers with the Red Lake Detachment were notified of a flight that was being diverted to Red Lake Airport due to an unruly passenger.

The flight had taken off in Sioux Lookout and was headed to Pikangikum before being diverted to Red Lake.

NIPIGON, THUNDER BAY, ONTARO  ~~~~~   June 7, 2022 (LSNews)  Hardworking Nipigon OPP Officers arrested a wanted car thief this past weekend after conducting a traffic stop on Highway 11/17. 

OPP Officers conducted a traffic stop on Saturday June 4,2022 at 12:56pm and learned the driver, a black male was on his way to Thunder Bay. The driver was on bail conditions from Ottawa of a 10pm to 5am curfew and he had an undertaking to reside in Laval, Quebec.

SUDBURY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~    June 6, 2022 (LSNews)  Around 10:30 p.m. on January 20, 2022, a woman covered her face and entered a convenience store on Douglas Street in Greater Sudbury. The woman walked to the register and placed a bag on the counter, demanding money from the till and cartons of cigarettes. During this time, the woman kept her hand in her jacket pocket while insinuating that she had a weapon. The woman fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and cartons of cigarettes.

FLOOD UPDATE ROAD CLOSURES

COOK COUNTY, KOOCHICHING  COUNTY, MINNESOTA, FORT FRANCES , RAINYRIVER, ONTARIO  ~~~~  June 4, 2022 (LSNews)  Due to rising flood waters, which have now surpassed the 1950 record levels, a road closure of UT 408 will go into effect at 12 pm on Sunday, June 5. This closure impacts one residence on the south side of the road. Residents have been notified and are encouraged to evacuate. Additional changes in traffic control and sheltering location will go into effect over the weekend to accommodate flood management and response.
