SIJHL ANNOUNCES RETURN TO PLAY

February 4th and 5th

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  January 28, 2022  (LSNews) The Superior International Junior Hockey League today announces that it’s Board of Governors has unanimously approved a return-to-play plan that will see regular season games resume on Friday, February 4, 2022

The regular season will not be extended as a result of the Province of Ontario’s 27- day pause on many activities and sports, including hockey. It will conclude as originally planned with the final games being played on Saturday March 26th.

The playoff tournament for the Bill Salonen Cup is slated to begin on Tuesday March 29th.

Additionally, the SIJHL has postponed it’s 2021-22 Showcase, originally scheduled from February 8th through 10th, to March 1st through 3rd. The Showcase will remain in Spooner, Wisconsin home of the Wisconsin Lumberjacks. The complete SIJHL schedule for the remainder of the regular season will be released in the coming days.

The league’s re-opening weekend schedule is as follows:

Thunder Bay North Stars at Kam River Fighting Walleye, 7:30pm EST, NorWest Arena, Oliver Paipoonge, ON

Fort Frances Lakers at Wisconsin Lumberjacks, 7:05pm CST, Spooner Civic Center, Spooner, Wisconsin

Saturday February 5

Officers arrived quickly to investigate.  The pregnant female victim suffered injuries requiring her to be hospitalized.

KOOCHICHING COUNTY, MINNESOTA  ~~~~  June 8, 2022  (LSNews)  Residents are encouraged to collect sandbags today while supply lines are short and supply is readily available.

“It’s a good day to come and stock up on bags prior to higher winds and any more severe weather,” said Sheriff Perryn Hedlund. “We are seeing a bit of a lull currently and thanks to the help of the National Guard and volunteers we currently have a good supply of bags available for residents. That could change very quickly with any more rain and winds; it’s better to be prepared.”

SIOUX LOOKOUT, ONTARIO   ~~~~  June 7, 2022  (LSNews)  On June 6, 2022 at approximately 5:45 pm CDT, hardworking Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Officers with the Red Lake Detachment were notified of a flight that was being diverted to Red Lake Airport due to an unruly passenger.

The flight had taken off in Sioux Lookout and was headed to Pikangikum before being diverted to Red Lake.

NIPIGON, THUNDER BAY, ONTARO  ~~~~~   June 7, 2022 (LSNews)  Hardworking Nipigon OPP Officers arrested a wanted car thief this past weekend after conducting a traffic stop on Highway 11/17. 

OPP Officers conducted a traffic stop on Saturday June 4,2022 at 12:56pm and learned the driver, a black male was on his way to Thunder Bay. The driver was on bail conditions from Ottawa of a 10pm to 5am curfew and he had an undertaking to reside in Laval, Quebec.

SUDBURY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~    June 6, 2022 (LSNews)  Around 10:30 p.m. on January 20, 2022, a woman covered her face and entered a convenience store on Douglas Street in Greater Sudbury. The woman walked to the register and placed a bag on the counter, demanding money from the till and cartons of cigarettes. During this time, the woman kept her hand in her jacket pocket while insinuating that she had a weapon. The woman fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and cartons of cigarettes.
