Thunder Bay maintained its title as the murder capital of Canada in 2018,  For the third consecutive year - and the fourth time in the last five years


The city reported the second-highest score under the national violent crime severity index, at 159.7, trailing only Winnipeg (161.4) in the category, which measures the overall volume and severity of the violent crime. The figure is nearly double the Canadian average of 82.4 among census metropolitan areas. 

On a per-capita basis, Thunder Bay Police investigate missing person reports at a rate nearly five times higher than their counterparts in Toronto.
Figures released this week by the Thunder Bay Police Service show there were 850 missing person reports last year, or about 732 per 100,000 population.

 In 2018, 44 people died of opioid overdose in Thunder Bay.

It’s made Thunder Bay the highest per capita opioid death rate in Ontario.

The 44 deaths were a 40 per cent increase from 2017, a year in which Thunder Bay also held the highest provincial rate.

Between July 2017 and June 2018, nearly 3,900 naloxone kits were handed out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and local pharmacies,

Sudbury  By comparison, between 2007 and 2016, Sudbury's homicide rate averaged 1.15 a year. Canada has a whole had a rate of 1.80 in 2017, with the 10-year average sitting at 1.67.
Thunder  Bay   Thunder Bay had the highest rate 2018 with 6.38 homicides per 100,000.

The Greenwood Fire was first detected on August 15, 2021 around 3 pm. It is located near Greenwood Lake and approximately 15 miles southwest of Isabella, Minn. It is rapidly growing and spreading due to high winds and dry vegetation and has the potential to impact structures and recreation assets.

SUDBURY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~  August 14, 2021 (LSNews)  Shortly after 6:15 p.m. on August 12, 2021, we received a call from an individual who was lost after venturing off of the groomed mountain bike trails in Naughton. The individual found himself in a very dense bush area and he was extremely tired as he had been attempting to find the trail for quite some time.

Members of our 9-1-1 Emergency Communication Centre (ECC) asked the man to download the What3Words app on his smart phone and to stay put as Officers were en route with our Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS). Once the man had downloaded the app, he was able to provide our Communicator with the three words associated to his location.
