SAULT STE MARIE, ONTARIO ~~~~~ May 11, 2022 (LSNews) The Loft is proud to host Summer Moon Festival’s inaugural series of interdisciplinary artist workshops in collaboration with Algoma University and presenting sponsor, Your Neighbourhood Credit Union!
“We have been partnering with Summer Moon Fest since before we opened our doors,” said Greig Nori, sound engineer and music aficionado at the Loft, who shared his excitement after two years of pandemic cancellations. “We can’t wait to see emerging artists learn from these workshops. We’re looking forward to helping grow Summer Moon Festival to be as synonymous with the Sault as SXSW is for Austin, Texas.”
Day one of the workshop series will focus on up close and intimate workshops topics such as:
- Introduction to podcasting, from Borderline Radio
- Post production, with Rolling Pictures
- Do’s and don’ts of the written medium with author and comic book writer, Jesse Jordan
- Telling our Stories with Fringe North Artistic Producer Tova Arbus, and
- Live songwriting with Jay Case and Frank Deresti
The focus of the second day of workshops will be on skills development and displaying local Indigenous talent facilitated by PACE - Algoma University’s Professional and Continuing Education program. “These workshops will embrace the seven grandfather teachings and will cultivate cross-cultural learning between Aboriginal communities and other communities,” shared Algoma University’s PACE director, Sumbul Syed.
Both days of workshops, facilitated by industry professionals will be held at the Loft at the Algoma Conservatory of music located at 75 Huron Street.
These workshops are free to access, however a $10 entry fee per workshop will be accepted for those who wish to support the workshop series operating expenses.
