CP24 is reporting Ten people connected to Delta variant were fully immunized

.. As Vaccine Hesitancy Increases

CALGARY, ALBERTA  ~ THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~~  June 12, 2012  (LSM)  Most people who tested positive at a Calgary hospital for the more contagious COVID-19 variant first reported in India had mild symptoms, except one person who was admitted into intensive care.
Several people connected to the Delta variant outbreak at Foothills Medical Centre were also fully immunized before testing positive, health officials confirmed earlier in the week.

He said of those infected with the variant, six patients and five health-care workers were fully immunized with two doses of vaccine. Seven patients and one health-care worker had one dose.

Three patients were not immunized, Williamson said.

He added that everyone was past the 14-day window after vaccination.

“(The vaccines) are about 33 per cent effective against the Delta variant after the first dose and rise to more than 80 per cent after the second dose,” Williamson said. “Which is why it's so important to get immunized, with both first and second doses.”

Earlier in the day, Premier Jason Kenney said the Delta variant “does not appear to be growing at an alarming rate to date.” CP24 Mews reported

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has not reported the Delta variant in their Coverage Area.

The TBDHU has identified  171 Variants of Concern

Today the TBDHU is rerporting

  • 1 Thunder Bay and surrounding areas
  • 2 First Nation communities
  • 3 District communities
  • 39 active cases

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Tuesday that only one strain of the COVID-19 Delta variant first detected in India is now considered of concern, ..

“It's important to remember that even after immunization, it's still possible to contract COVID-19,” Kerry Williamson, spokesman for Alberta Health Services, said in an email Friday.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) delta variant, first discovered in India late last year, is quickly becoming the dominant strain of the virus across the United Kingdom and is prompting concerns from health officials closely monitoring its progress.

The delta variant, which is being monitored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a variant of concern, is becoming the dominant form of the virus in the United Kingdom — just months after a separate variant, known as B.1.1.7 swept through the U.K. and the United States.

Britain’s health secretary recently said the delta variant is around 40% more transmissible compared to the country’s existing strains, which already had increased transmission levels compared to the initial form of the virus that launched the pandemic.

Canada has among the highest rates of vaccination against COVID-19 in the world, with 63 per cent of the population having had at least one dose of vaccine, according to the website COVID19tracker.ca.

COVID Vaccine Hesitancy

But already, there are signs that upward progress might be stalling in some places, and health officials are urging Canadians to keep up the momentum.

“The first 60, 70 per cent might be easier to administer the vaccine [to]. We’ve seen that experience in other countries,” said Dr. Howard Njoo, Canada’s deputy chief public health officer, at a press conference Friday.
