TWO CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID 19

AT KENORA DISTRICT JAIL

KENORA, ONTARIO ~~~  June 7, 2020 (LSN)  Criminals still being sent there. but, pandemic protocols have increased,  plans underway to begin testing everyone in the jail starting tomorrow.

Last night, Saturday June 6,2020 just past 7:30pm the Northwest Health Unit announced 3 new cases of Covid 19 in the Kenora area. 

Chief Waylon Scott of the Wabaseemoong Indian Reserve also known as Whitedog confirmed one of the cases was on their territory and it may have been acquired while the band member was at Thunder Bay Hospital. 

Inside Edition has confirmed the other 2 cases are at the Kenora Jail. 

Increased protocols and quarantines are now in effect and it is expected that it will slow things down at the jail considerably for inmate court appearances. 

The Kenora Jail is still accepting new inmates. 

Inside Edition has learned that there are plans to test everyone at the jail starting tomorrow

Northwestern Health Unit can confirm three new COVID-19 cases have been identified in the Kenora area. Follow up with the cases and contacts is being done collaboratively with local and federal agencies. If you have not been notified, then it means you are not at risk of acquiring COVID-19 from these cases.

Please assume COVID-19 is in your community and practice precautions including physical distancing, hand washing, and not touching your face.

Testing for COVID-19 is available for anyone who is concerned that they might have been exposed. In the Kenora area call the local Assessment Centre at 468-9861 ext. 2483. For more info see our website at www.nwhu.on.ca/covid19.

This morning, Sunday June 7,2020 two more criminals were ordered to be sent there. 

A 30 year old WALTER CAMPBELL of North Spirit Lake was arrested last night by hardworking Nishnawbe Aski Police Officers for breaching his release order. He appeared by audio before His Worship, Regional Senior Justice of the Peace Bernard Caron and was denied release in Thunder Bay Bail Court this morning. CAMPBELL is being flown to Kenora this afternoon and will make a court appearance in Kenora tomorrow. 

An 18 year old DANIELLE ROSE TAIT of the Wabaseemoong Indian Reserve also know as Whitedog, was arrested last night, Saturday June 6, 2020 by hardworking Treaty Three Police Officers for breaching her latest release order. She also appeared in Thunder Bay Bail Court this morning and was denied release. She’s on her way to the Kenora Jail. She will appear in Kenora Bail court tomorrow. TAIT has been arrested several times this year.  MORE ON TAIT BELOW

HARDWORKING TREATY THREE POLICE ARREST WHITEDOG WOMAN FOR BEERCAN ASSAULT. 

Treaty Three Police Officers responded to an assault yesterday May 9,2020 to find a woman who had been assaulted with a beercan. 

Hardworking Officers arrived at a residence on the Wabaseemoong Indian Reserve also known as White Dog and after much resistance by the accused, Treaty Three Officers arrested 18 year old DANIELLE ROSE TAIT. 

TAIT was held overnight at the Treaty Three detachment and appeared before Justice of the Peace Denette Ellard today. 

TAIT is facing charges of:

  • -assault with a weapon (beercan) 
  • -mischief (destroy victim Ipod) 
  • -breach of release X 2 (no contact with victim and stay 25 metres away) 
  • -resist police by hanging onto doorframe 
  • TAIT has outstanding criminal charges of:
  • -assault causing bodily harm 
  • -breach of release 
  • -mischief 

TAIT is accused now of multiple assaults on the same woman. The 18 year old is denied bail today and heading to the Kenora Jail. 

She will appear by video in Kenora Bail Court tomorrow.
