SIJHL's Walleye's Enegren Commits to Oregon

SIJHL's Walleye's Enegren Commits to Oregon

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~  January 14, 2022  (LSNews)   The Kam River Fighting Walleye would like to congratulate Alex Enegren on his commitment to the University of Oregon and their ACHA division 1 hockey program, for the 2022-23 season

“I'm very excited to have the opportunity to play for the University of Oregon and help build their D1 program while simultaneously earning my college degree,” said Enegren. “During the recruiting process, I was able to visit University of Oregon and meet with the coaches and tour the school and I am confident it is a great match for me.”

Kam River GM Kevin McCallum is proud to see another member of his squad receive a college hockey commitment. “Our organization is extremely dedicated to seeing our players succeed and achieve their goals,” McCallum said. “We couldn't be more excited for Alex as he has stuck by our organization through all the ups and downs that have been thrown our way. Being an American player, he had lots of options to play elsewhere. He stuck here and believed in the process, believed in our organization that we get our guys to the next level. I look forward to taking a trip to Eugene, Oregon to watch our future Ducks play. Such an exciting time for Alex and the Fighting Walleye organization,” said McCallum.

The 20 year old forward from Coeur D’Alene, Idaho is enjoying a fantastic final junior season with the Walleye. Enegren is currently tied for 4th in SIJHL scoring, with 15 goals, 18 assists and 33 points in 26 games

“I can't thank the coaches and management of the Kam River Fighting Walleye enough for helping me grow and develop as a player and person,” continued Enegren. “I had numerous college offers thanks to the guidance and hard work of this first class organization. It's been a pleasure being a part of the expansion team and I have enjoyed my time here tremendously. Also, I would like to thank my linemates and teammates, without whom I would be nothing. I will always be a Fish in my heart, but look forward to my next chapter as an Oregon Duck,” he said.

Including the numbers he put up in last year’s abbreviated season, Enegren is the current leading scorer in the Fighting Walleye’s brief history, with 39 points in 30 career regular season games. Named an alternate captain at the start of ‘21-‘22, Enegren will join Fighting Walleye teammate Austin Madge on the Ducks next season, the program’s first year in division 1

“I'm very proud to see yet another one of our players commit to play college hockey for next year,” said Walleye head coach Matt Valley. “Alex has had a number of schools interested in him and it's nice to see him choose one that fits his needs perfectly. Oregon is basically a dream school for him and I have no doubt in my mind that he'll excel there both on and off the ice. Congrats, Greener!” Valley concluded
