MPP Rickford Announces 24 New Child Care Spaces

Province Invests $998,244 in Retrofit at Keewatin Public School

KENORA, ONTARIO ~~~~  December 2, 2020 (LSN)  Today, Greg Rickford, MPP for Kenora–Rainy River, on behalf of Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education, announced a $998,244 investment in a retrofit project at the Keewatin Public School to create new child care spaces.

“I’m proud to stand here in Keewatin, my hometown, to announce this important news for our community,” said Rickford. “This project will build 24 new child care spaces, resulting in greater choice and flexibility for families in Northwestern Ontario. We are revitalizing our facilities to better support our families, students and children to give them the tools to succeed in their early years.”

The province has given Keewatin-Patricia District School Board approval to tender a child care retrofit to Keewatin Public School. The $998,244 investment will add a new, quality learning environment for the students of Keewatin. The project will result in 24 new licenced child care spaces as part of the province’s capital investment program to build more child care spaces for Ontario’s families.

“Learning is a life-long process and we are proud to be able to offer these kinds of opportunities at Keewatin Public School thanks to the support of Minister Rickford and the Ministry of Education,” said Cecile Marcino, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Keewatin-Patricia District School Board. “We are proud to see Keewatin Public School as the location for this great new child care space and we know it’s appreciated by the families in the area.”

“From modernizing our curriculum to revitalizing our classrooms and their facilities, we are investing in our students and giving them every tool to achieve their full potential,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. “Our financing of the child care retrofit to Keewatin Public School further demonstrates our government’s historic investment in Ontario’s schools and child cares, as well as our overall commitment to supporting our students and families.”
