THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO,  October 31, 2019  (LSN) Thunder Bay has a Halloween tradition that you won’t find in every city. It’s the annual Great Pumpkin Compost Collection! The City of Thunder Bay, EcoSuperior and GFL Environmental, coordinate this event to help promote waste reduction and composting. Instead of sending pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns out to the curb in a trash bag, residents are asked to take their Halloween pumpkins to one of the three collection bins. The collection bins will be located at the County Fair Plaza on Dawson Road, the Westfort Playfield off Neebing Avenue and the overflow parking lot for Intercity Shopping Centre, on Fort William Road next to Swiss Chalet. Compostable decorations such as cornstalks and straw can also be placed in the bins. Non-compostable items such as plastic bags and candles are not accepted. The collection bins are scheduled to be in place from November 1 – 10, 2019.

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO,  October 28, 2019  (LSN) Dease Pool supporters will never give up.  City officials are simply not listening to the Dease/Vickers community.
The Dease Pool advocates have collected over 6,000 signatures on a petition to get Dease Pool re-vitalized, have presented a plan to City Council written by Kateri Banning to get the historic pool repaired and open for a fraction of the cost. They have attended and organized countless meetings and deputations before the city council. The Heritage Advisory Council has also relayed to council that they deem the site to be of Heritage value.

TORONTO, ONTARIO - November 3, 2019  (LSN)   Ontario’s Fall Economic Statement will be released next week and will set the stage for the Ford government’s second budget and policy direction. This will come after last year’s retreat from a mishandled program of expenditure restraint. The tone of the resumed legislature last week already seems more diplomatic, perhaps indicating that the government’s handling of fiscal and economic issues will be better thought out. The government will certainly need to do a better job of selling restraint if that’s its goal. Finance Minister Rod Phillips says Ontario fiscal update coming Nov. 6
