Supply Ontario will connect northern businesses with customers province-wide

Supply Ontario will connect northern businesses with customers province-wide

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO   ~~~~~~~  December 4, 2020 (LSN)  The experience of sourcing PPE and other critical supplies during the height of the pandemic shone a light on the cracks in our supply chain system. Kenora, Rainy River, Dryden, Thunder Bay, Terrace Bay Marathon, Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, North Bay, Timmins, Ontario

It showed clearly that we need a made-in-Ontario solution that takes advantage of our manufacturing might and creates opportunities for businesses right here at home.

That is why earlier this month, our provincial government launched Supply Ontario, a centralized supply chain agency that will stabilize access to a high-quality supply of critical products, including PPE. Supply Ontario will connect small businesses and entrepreneurs to government and its 6,000 customers, stimulate job creation and economic growth, and deliver the best value for Ontarians by buying as one.

As the agency is stood up, it will draw heavily on local supply chain expertise and work closely with northern and rural businesses of all sizes to take advantage of all they have to offer.

To get the conversation going, I had the opportunity this week to meet with the Northern Chambers of Commerce which included representatives from the Chambers of Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, North Bay, Thunder Bay, and Timmins. We had a great conversation about the importance of northern businesses having access to government procurement opportunities. I am pleased to say that we are aligned in that goal, and I am very glad to have met with our northern Chambers; it was a valuable discussion that we will continue as we stand up Supply Ontario.

We discussed that while our government values and will continue to work with our trading partners, Supply Ontario will open up opportunities for Ontario manufacturers and innovators in all corners of the province to enter the playing field and bid for projects to supply our province, as they have stepped up and done during the pandemic.

A key feature of the agency will be a single, easy-to-navigate point of access for local vendors to reach the entire provincial marketplace.

This agency is a real win for Ontario, and our government is eager to continue our work with vendors and stakeholders as we get this multi-year journey underway. Our collaboration is the key to this exciting transformation for Ontario.

With Supply Ontario, the province will never need to rely on another jurisdiction to meet the needs of Ontarians. We will be able to take advantage of Ontario-made solutions, align supply with demand, and ensure that schools, hospitals, and the entire public sector always have the critical supplies and equipment they need to operate and stay safe.
