medical emergency on the trail to Eagle Mountain

COOK COUNTRY, MINNESOTA  ~~  October 11, 2021 (LSNews) On Sunday, October 10, 2021, the Cook County Sheriff's Office received a call for a person experiencing a medical emergency on the trail to Eagle Mountain. The call came in at 2:46 pm and emergency responders began arriving at the trailhead at approximately 3:30.

The responders began the hike to the patient which was approximately 2 miles. After arriving and assessing the patient, the responders began the journey back to the parking area where the North Shore Health ambulance was staged along with other responders. During the hike back, the National Weather Service in Duluth reported a rotation in the clouds in the vicinity of Eagle Mountian, and as they continued, they were forced to take shelter under trees due to a hail storm.

The responders and the patient were able to continue after the storm and made it back to the parking area at approximately 7:29 pm. The patient was transported to St. Luke's by ambulance. None of the responders were injured and everyone cleared the scene.

I cannot say enough or express enough gratitude for our First Responders and Search & Rescue personnel in Cook County. They answer the call for service without hesitation and without concern for themselves so they can help others in need. Their dedication and selflessness are second to none and I thank you all sincerely.

Sheriff Pat Eliasen

    TBDHU Advising against non-essential travel

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~  December 2, 2021 (LSNews)  At this time, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is recommending that all residents avoid non-essential travel to Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. This is regardless of an individual’s vaccination status. These states currently have the highest rates of COVID-19 in the United States and the rates are considerably higher than those in the TBDHU area. In addition, public health measures are also different in these areas and are generally looser than those in TBDHU and Ontario. This contributes to higher levels of community transmission and greater risk to people.
