Salvation Army to Provide Gas Card Assistance to Flood-Impacted Homeowners

MnDOT to begin removing Hwy 11 temporary grade raises

KOOCHICHING, COUNTY, MINNESOTA  ~~~~~~  July 6, 2022 (LSNews)  The Salvation Army Disaster Services Division will be distributing free gas cards to prequalified homeowners who were affected by the recent flooding. Gas cards can be obtained at the Salvation Army Service Center in International Falls, located at 1301 3rd Avenue West on Friday, July 8 from 3-8 pm, and Saturday, July 9 from 10 am to 5 pm.

“Gas expenses as well as food access are becoming a challenge for those impacted by the flood,” said Major Michelle Heaver, Salvation Army. “This is one way the Salvation Army can help ease the burden for families dealing with the challenge of flooding.”

Information on Ruby’s Pantry other food distribution options will also available.

The Salvation Army has been a crucial partner in post disaster response, assisting the community over the last six weeks. Through June 25, the Salvation Army provided:

  • Meals – 5,685
  • Drinks – 13,152
  • Snacks – 9,122
  • Emotional & Spiritual Care Contacts: 326
  • Flood Clean-Up Kits – 26

“We are exceptionally grateful for the assistance of the Salvation Army since the beginning of the flooding,” said Sheriff Perryn Hedlund. “Their staff and volunteers have been a critical partner in community response supporting those in need, the National Guard and volunteers who assisted, and have been important partners in our Emergency Operations Center. We couldn’t do this without them and their ongoing support is greatly appreciated.”

MnDOT to begin removing Hwy 11 temporary grade raises


DULUTH, Minn. – MnDOT will begin removing the temporary, emergency grade raises on Hwy 11 near Rainy Lake as soon as the end of the week of July 5 or the beginning of the week of July 11. Work will begin near Tilson’s Bay and move to the east. It is expected to take several weeks to remove all of the grade raises. Signal systems will remain in operation until the grade raises are removed.

Motorists should expect flagging operations when work is occurring. The public is urged to use caution and have patience in work zones.
