SAULT STE MARIE, ONTARIO ~~~~ August 13, 2020 (LSN) On August 12, 2020, officers with Patrol Services, Investigation Services and the Emergency Services Unit arrested a 56-year-old man for forcible confinement.
Around 8:30 p.m. officers responded to a call of a domestic dispute in the 800 block of Cooper Street. Upon arrival police observed the accused with a handgun in front of the residence. The accused then went back into the residence, and blocked another person inside the residence from leaving.
As a result, a full Incident Response Team was called to the scene, including the ESU and two negotiators. During the incident, the accused pointed the firearm at officers on several occasions. After approximately five hours of negotiating, the victim was released from the residence and the accused was arrested and the handgun was seized. No physical injuries were sustained during the incident. After seizing the handgun, it was determined it was an imitation firearm.
The accused is charged with forcible confinement, assaulting a peace officer with an imitation weapon, pointing a firearm and using an imitation firearm while committing an offence. He was held for bail court.
