CHRONIC DRUNK DRIVER BUSTED AGAIN AFTER HOUSE COLLISION

Thunder Bay Police Service

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~~ September 19,2020  (LSN)  Hardworking Thunder Bay Police Officers were called just before 5am to the 300 block of Cumberland Street North on Friday, September 11, 2020 after a vehicle collided with a house

Officers responded quickly to find the driver who appeared to be very impaired by alcohol.

A 28 year old EVELYN VEGERIS was arrested and criminally charged with:

  • -Impaired Driving
  • -Failure or Refusal to Comply With Breath Demand.

VEGERIS has a history of driving drunk in the city and has put the public at risk many times.

Inside Edition sources indicate that her child is no longer in her custody due to her risky behaviour

VEGERIS was released and has a future court date October 16,2020

CONVICTED EXTREME DRUNK DRIVER RACKING UP MORE DRIVING CHARGES UNDER SUSPENSION.

Appearing in Provincial Offences Court today, Friday February 1,2019 before His Worship Justice of the Peace Bruce Leaman is 26 year old EVELYN VEGERIS.

Her latest set of charges are driving under suspension and fleeing the scene of an accident for allegations arising from an incident on October 27,2018.

VEGERIS has retained a paralegal and has a trial date set for March 21,2019

PREVIOUS EXTREME DRUNK DRIVING CONVICTION

VEGERIS was convicted of Impaired Driving and Operate a Vehicle with No Insurance on March 20,2018 after a trial before Her Honour Justice Joyce Pelletier. VEGERIS had brought her new born baby to her trial.

Evidence presented during the trial was that on November 24,2016 VEGERIS was at Lot 66 and had been consuming alcohol. She got in driver’s seat of her truck and struck an off duty police officer’s vehicle. The officer who witnessed this intervened and contacted her on duty counterparts.

THE VIDEO FROM TBPS STATION

This video spoke volumes about the intoxication level of VEGERIS. She laid on the floor at police station wailing and flopping around like a fish out of water. The police officer told her “ You know, the Judge is going to see this video?”

VEGERIS continued her wailing, screaming and flopping around. The officers continued to ask her to perform a breathalyzer. VEGERIS continued her wailing.

I’ve seen a lot of videos from TBPS on drunk drivers, but this was by far the most extreme one I’ve ever seen.

VEGERIS was convicted of impaired driving and no insurance.

She was fined 2000$ for the impaired and license suspension for one year.

THE FINE REDUCTION FOR NO INSURANCE.

Justice Pelletier heard from defence lawyer Ann Pollock that VEGERIS was a student in civil engineering at Confederation College and a mother to newborn. Pollock requested a reduction in the minimum 5000$ fine plus victim surcharge 1250$

Her Honour feels sympathy and applies a 90% reduction to 500$ plus 125$ victim surcharge.
