TWO HARBORS, MINNESOTA Jan18, 2020 (LSN) -- Whether you ski, snowshoe or hike during the winter, this event is for you. Join the fun on candle lit trails at the annual Gooseberry Falls State Park Candlelight Event. Mark your calendars for this special evening of winter fun on Saturday, February 15th anytime between 6:00 – 8:30pm.groomed trail.
Begin at the Visitor Center with coco and cookies with a gentle walk to Upper Falls and the fairy lights in the caves. Ice luminaries light the paved path to the falls. Once there enjoy colored ice globes, hanging candles and the beautiful view of Upper Falls on the Gooseberry River. Decorated by the Heritage Girls, this troop has arranged lights to create a magical world.
Then grab your skis for a two mile loop that leads you to the campfire. Traditional diagonal ski trails will lead you across the Gooseberry River into the woods above Upper Falls then back to the visitor center. Those skiers wanting to access the campfire ski 1 mile on the old Nester Grade railroad line as it circles the campground and trail area.
Snowshoes and hikers can walk the rim trail through the campground as cup candles light the woods and trees along the way. Views of the lighted trail can be seen through the trees while hiking back on the trail. The trail is just over 1 mile to the campfire.
Once reaching the roaring campfire at Lady Slipper Amphitheater, sit and warm by the fire. Enjoy a toasted marshmallows. At the campfire, have your photo taken under the fairy light trees as cup candles are hung all around and within the trees creating a magical feel.
