THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  September 22, 2019 ( LSN)  The 52nd (New Ontario) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force Monument was dedicated Saturday 21 September by Honorary Colonel the Honorable Madame Justice Helen Pearce representing the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment Senate, Lieutenant General Omer Lavoie on behalf of the Canadian Forces and Councillor Andrew Foulds of the City of Thunder Bay.

The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment was on parade under its Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel David Ratz with its Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.  The Regiment was accompanied by the MacGillivray Pipe Band, 42 (Vindictive) Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp, 70 (Thunder Bay) Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron and a combined Colour Party from several Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Association.  The Fort William Male Choir sang the Nation Anthem and the Royal Anthem and performed more songs during the wreath-laying ceremony. 
 
    An “Old Guard” in the First World War uniform of the 52nd (New Ontario) Battalion was posted at the monument.  It was relieved by a “New Guard” from the LSSR once the monument had been blessed by chaplain Major (retired) the Reverend Kerry MacLaughlin.  Once the monument had been consecrated, wreaths were laid on behalf of the LSSR Senate, the Canadian Forces, the Regiment and the City of Thunder Bay.  More wreaths were then laid on behalf of many communities from around “New Ontario” include First Nations, municipalities, veterans groups and community sponsors.

The dedication ceremony ended with a picnic in the park coordinated by the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment Association.

​The parade, dedication and wreath laying ceremony ran from 10:30 AM to noon.  The picnic and opportunities for paying private respects at the memorial will run from noon to 3 o’clock.
