Kam River Fighting Walleye: Fishing Derby

KRFW Fishing Fest Registration opens May 15th

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO   ~~~~~~~ May 13, 2021 (LSN)  The Kam River Fighting Walleye is excited to announce details on it’s 1st Annual catch-and-release Fishing Derby on Saturday, July 10th: “KRFW Fishing Fest presented by Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. in support of the Staal Family Foundation. On Saturday, May 15th, registration for the event will open at 12pm. The early bird registration fee is $50, and Under 16 participants can fish for free if accompanied by a registered participant. Being that the official date of the derby is amid family fishing weekend, all types of participants are encouraged to register: especially families, veteran and rookie anglers.

Amongst the overwhelming support of sponsors, the dominant outdoors community, and the demand for a community event, the Fighting Walleye believe that this will be one of the top events of the summer. Over thirty sponsors including; Pakashkan Lake Lodge, Dog Lake Resort, Heart Beat Hot Sauce Co., Tbaytel, Half-Way Motors Power Sports, Newmont Mining, THP Variety, and ACO Marketing, have hopped on board with generous donations; in total the derby has collected over $20,000 in prizes and counting. The prize categories include: Top 3 Walleye, Top 3 Bass, Kids Top 5 Walleye/Bass, Participant Prizes, and a Grand Prize; with the exceptional support of sponsors, each of the prizes has a minimum of $250 retail value.

The KRFW Fishing Fest will meet all COVID-19 regulations, as this “virtual” event will be hosted through the FishDonkey App. The specialty of this app allows for the derby to include all bodies of water within Fisheries Management Zone 6 (with exceptions outlined in the Official Derby Rules). The convenience of FishDonkey allows for participants to fish off shore at their camps, bring their boats to their favourite fishing spot, or cast a line in to the Kam River.

Fighting Walleye president Derek Geddes is ecstatic for the event, “we are extremely pleased by the tremendous support we’ve received from the business community in our area. We are excited to bring this event to our community and allow families an opportunity to get out on the lake and have the chance to win some incredible prizes. We are extremely grateful to Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. for coming on as our presenting sponsor and to be partnered with such a great charity in the Staal Family Foundation.“

Additionally, the derby will include a live auction where 100% of the proceeds will go to the Staal Family Foundation, where everyone will have the opportunity to bid on some incredible memorabilia and more exceptional prizes donated by local businesses. This auction will open on July 1st and run until 8pm on July 10th. The auction link will be provided via www.fightingwalleye.com and the Facebook Event Page “KRFW Virtual Fishing Fest presented by Sleeping Giant Brewing Co.”
