“We are looking forward to offering both the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines to the community in the coming weeks,” said Grace Grinager, Cook County Public Health Supervisor. “Both vaccines offer excellent protection from severe disease due to COVID-19.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted a temporary pause in use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The temporary pause was due to reports of a rare blood clotting disorder following vaccination in a very small number of individuals. After reviewing the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine for use in the ongoing pandemic, the CDC and FDA concluded that the benefits of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine far outweigh the risk. The pause allowed time to educate medical providers on how to effectively recognize and treat this rare side effect and is an example of how our vaccine safety system works.

Registration is available via the COVID-19 hub site at  For those registering for the Moderna vaccine, you will be automatically registered for your second-dose appointment at the appropriate 28-day interval. To complete the online registration, individuals will need to provide:

  • name, address, phone number and date of birth
  • a valid email address

Assistance is available for those who do not have internet access or need additional help signing up for an appointment. Call 218-877-8273 or email for support. Registration is required for these and all future vaccine events.

Cook County Public Health will continue to inform the community of additional vaccination opportunities via media release and social media as future events are organized.
