Conservatives call for return to pre-pandemic rules for travel

Conservatives call for return to pre-pandemic rules for travel

THUNDER BAY, OTTAWA, ONTARIO  ~~~~~~   May 19, 2022 (LSNews)  Melissa Lantsman, Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, and Luc Berthold, Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition and Québec Political Lieutenant, released the following statement on today’s Conservative Opposition Day Motion:

“The Liberal government’s outdated COVID-19 protocols at airports are causing extreme delays, line-ups, bottlenecks, and missed connections.

“As allies across the world, like the European Union and the United States have loosened rules for passengers on flights and in airports, Canadian travelers are still subjected to unnecessary protocols that are causing severe delays.

“When asked for a timeline of when these issues might be resolved, the Liberal Minister of Transport gave none. Instead of taking responsibility for the delays, the Minister blamed ‘out-of-practice travellers’ for causing delays at security checkpoints.

“The aviation and tourism industry in Canada has been hit hard – we need to be supporting economic recovery in Canada instead of needlessly restricting travel. Our global reputation as a top travel location is at risk.

“Industry experts from a wide range of disciplines are calling on the government to drop travel restrictions. These restrictions have many impacts on Canadian travel times, our economy, and the country’s international reputation.

“The NDP-Liberal government has an opportunity to show Canadians that they are following the science and are serious about preventing these unacceptable delays by supporting our Conservative motion and returning to pre-pandemic rules and service levels for travel. As travel returns to pre-pandemic levels, airports should too.”

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reminds all travellers crossing the border this upcoming Victoria Day long weekend of what to expect at the border during the busy summer months, whether returning home to Canada or visiting.

This summer, travellers are returning to a border that is managed differently, with evolving COVID-19 requirements, which can mean delays during peak periods. The CBSA is working to mitigate long border wait times, but there are also things that travellers can do to make the process easier for themselves and other travellers.

Travellers can help reduce wait times at the border by coming prepared and by completing their mandatory ArriveCAN submission within 72 hours before arriving at the border.

  • Use ArriveCAN. All travellers, regardless of vaccination status, are required to submit their information in ArriveCAN (free as a mobile app or by website), up to 72 hours before entering Canada. ArriveCAN collects contact, health and travel information to protect the health and safety of travellers and expedite processing at the border. It is the fastest, easiest and most secure way for travellers to show they meet public health requirements.
    • Travellers must ensure they have the most up-to-date version of the ArriveCAN app (consult the Google Play Store or the App Store for iPhone.)
    • Travellers should print or take a screenshot of their ArriveCAN receipt and bring it with them when they travel.
    • Travellers without a smartphone or without mobile data can submit their information by signing in online through a computing device. If travellers are unable to enter their information themselves, they can have a friend or family member enter the information for them.
  • Have all your documents ready. Travellers should have the following ready to present to the border services officer: their ArriveCAN receipt; passport or travel documents, proof of vaccination; and identification for all persons in the vehicle.

The Great Lakes — Superior, Huron, Michigan, Ontario and Erie — make up the largest body of fresh water on Earth, accounting for one-fifth of the freshwater surface on the planet at 6 quadrillion gallons. The area of all the Great Lakes is 95,160 square miles (246,463 square kilometers) and span 750 miles (1,200 km) from west to east.

Notice the differance is the depth of each of the Great Lakes  With Lake Superior being the deepest and Lake Erie being the Shallowest
