Expanded Opportunities to Support Carousel Restoration

Expanded Opportunities to Support Carousel Restoration

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO ~~~  July 20, 2020  (LSN)  The Friends of Chippewa Park Save Our Carousel Committee is in the final stretch in its fund-raising campaign to restore the 105-year-old C.W. Parker Carousel. “With $30,000 left to raise of the $1.4 million restoration cost we have created more opportunities for people to be part of this historic restoration” stated Co-Chair, Donna Gilhooly.  “We have expanded the number of horses on which individuals can choose a particular feature to designate as their own through their donation  – from horseshoes to the saddle blanket and reins ”  A total of 20 horses are now available for people to contribute to the restoration by “buying” one of the many beautiful elements of a horse.

“We are also excited to announce that we have created an opportunity for people to memorialize their favourite animal companion as part of the restoration.  Horse 15B, which features a puppy on its cantle, has been chosen for this honour.  Horse 15B will be officially named Favourite Animal Companion. Individuals will have the opportunity to purchase a large or small paw that will adorn a replica image of Horse 15B which will be displayed at the Carousel site for decades to come” said Gilhooly.

A range of carousel merchandise continues to be available from T-Shirts to Christmas Ornaments and cards.  All of the donations and purchases can be made through www.saveourcarousel.com . As well, merchandise can be directly purchased at the Chippewa Park Pavilion.

The funding raised will be applied to the final aspects of the restoration including purchase of materials and services to complete the work. Construction of the replacement chariots will resume this fall once Hammarskjold High School reopens as will the painting of iconic scenes on the rounding boards by students at Superior Collegiate. The restoration is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2021.
