NORTHERN, ONTARIO ~~~~~ May 18, 2021 (LSN) In response to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, the Live from the Rock Blues & Folk Society board of directors has once again decided to cancel its annual three-day Live from the Rock Folk Festival as it would normally be held each year.
“We have been waiting and watching, along with the rest of the province, as the COVID-19 situation has unfolded and at this time there are just too many unknowns to safely and successfully plan and hold our regular festival this August,” says board president Jim Malo. “The health and wellbeing of our volunteers, the local and travelling musicians who perform, the vendors, artisans and our wonderful festival attendees is paramount. Although we were hopeful that we might be able to go ahead with the 2021 event, we look forward to the time that we can all safely be together again at the festival.”
In response to the cancellation of the 2020 date, festival organizers planned a four-part virtual concert series funded by the Government of Canada and filmed by a series of local videographers and filmmakers. The concerts were held at intimate regional venues to be shared online at a later date. Despite date postponements and a move to closed sets without audiences due to public health restrictions, the Live from the Rock Folk Festival Social Sessions performances have now all taken place.
“We are very proud of our Social Sessions virtual concert series and what we have managed to accomplish in an ever-changing public health environment during the pandemic,” says festival chair Laura Foulds. “Although we will not be presenting our festival in the format that we normally would each year, we are once again looking at planning innovative activities for the 2021/22 season that will allow us to deliver on our mandate to support music and the arts on the north shore of Lake Superior.”
The Social Sessions series finale – filmed by Apple Wagon Films at the Live from the Rock Folk Festival site at Pull-A-Log Park in Red Rock featuring local acts The Chain, the James Boraski Trio and Quayson Williams – will air live on the festival’s official Facebook page on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
