Waste Reduction Week in Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO  ~~  October 19, 2021  (LSNews)   Waste Reduction Week (WRW) is happening in Thunder Bay, and across Canada from October 18-24, 2021. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the campaign in Canada! The City of Thunder Bay, EcoSuperior and their community partners have multiple activities and promotions planned during the week to educate and inspire everyone to reduce waste and save resources using the six R’s: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle

The launch of Waste Reduction Week is going virtual again this year! We normally host an assembly at a local school, who are leaders in waste reduction. This year, we are inviting citizens to follow EcoSuperior’s social media to see what local groups, schools, workplaces, and individuals are doing to reduce waste. This year we joined Mrs. Sutton’s Grade 1 class virtually at St. Pius X School to celebrate the start of Waste Reduction Week! The Grade 1 students prepared their own Ecotips to teach us how they are reducing waste in their classroom, and how we can all reduce waste in our everyday lives.

Waste Reduction Week is intended to raise public awareness about waste and its environmental and social impacts. The program incorporates events and activities that have become traditions in Thunder Bay, inspiring change in our community. This year it is still looking a little bit different, but we are excited to be able to offer a chance to connect over these important actions for change.

The 2021 Waste Reduction Week will include: - Virtual launch at St. Pius X School - Classroom presentations for schools, email [email protected] (limited availability) - Living low waste webinar with special local guests: Three Huggers, and The Refill Co. on Tuesday October 19th at 7pm ( - Waste reduction engagement and education with local businesses and residents throughout 562 Red River Road Thunder Bay, ON P7B 1H3 807.624.2140 October, keep your eye out at your favourite local store and stay tuned to EcoSuperior’s social media channels

Daily social media highlights on reducing waste - Educational trivia, with great local prizes on EcoSuperior’s social media channels - Waste Reduction Week project with Confederation College Waste Management students - Composting 101 workshop at Central Gardens on Wednesday October 27th at 6pm ( - The Great Pumpkin Compost Collection running from November 1-9 th (more details listed on the EcoSuperior website), and the first ever Virtual Pumpkin Parade Photo Contest – post a photo to social media and tag @ecosuperior and use #jackinthebox to enter!

Don’t forget, post your own waste reduction themed photos to social media throughout the week using the hashtag #WasteReductionWeekTB and show us how you are living low waste or reducing the waste you create! Waste reduction programs are funded by the City of Thunder Bay and delivered by EcoSuperior.
