SAULT STE MARIE, ONTARIO ~~~~~ April 29, 2022 (LSNews) The school year is nearing an end, and we want to remind all graduating students about the Don Doucet Scholarship. Any student enrolled at a post-secondary school in Canada in a law related area of study is eligible to apply.
May 14, 2006 was a dark day for the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the community as a whole. That is the day we lost one of our finest officers, 12 year police veteran Constable Donald Doucet. Constable Doucet, or Donny to those of us who knew him best, was a fun loving individual who was liked and respected by all members of our Service.
A hero in life, not in death, Constable Doucet’s name lives on in a number of areas of our city. The bridge on Highway 17 that crosses the Root River bears his name, as does the Donald Doucet Youth Centre for young offenders.
The annual Don Doucet Memorial Golf Tournament has had a lasting impact on the community as well. The charitable event began in 2006, and raises money for the Don Doucet Memorial Scholarship Fund. Recipients of the bursary are individuals graduating from high school who are enrolling in a law related area of study at a post-secondary institution. To date 78 students have benefited from the scholarship fund.
All the information about the scholarship can be located on the Cst. Don Doucet Memorial page on our website, including the application form.
For anyone interested in applying for the scholarship please complete the application form and email the completed form to [email protected].
The deadline to apply is May 21, 2022.
