WMH Receives National Recognition

Chartis Center of Rural Health, National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health Performance Leadership Award

SAULT STE MARIE, MICHIGAN  ~~~~  November 18, 2021  (LSNews)   As part of the 2021 National Rural Health Day celebration, War Memorial announced it has been recognized by The Chartis Center of Rural Health and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) with a Performance Leadership Award in the category of Outcomes, reflecting top quartile performance among all rural hospitals in the nation.   

The Performance Leadership Awards utilize the results of the Hospital Strength INDEX®, the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. INDEX data is trusted by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations and state offices of rural health across the country to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance.

War Memorial Hospital is on the journey to becoming a High-Reliability Organization (HRO). High reliability organizations cultivate resilience by relentlessly prioritizing patient safety over other performance pressures. For this award, WMH was recognized for the overall excellent in the Outcomes category. WMH is committed to creating an environment in which potential errors are anticipated, detected early and virtually always responded to early enough to prevent errors.

War Memorial Hospital is a non-profit independent hospital located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The 49-bed hospital employs over 900 people and serves the Eastern Upper Peninsula by providing complete medical care including diagnostic services, emergency services, urgent care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, obstetrics, family medicine and many specialty services. War Memorial has a Long Term Care facility attached to the main campus of the hospital and a standalone Behavioral Health Center in nearby Kincheloe, Michigan. War Memorial also many outpatient offices across the Eastern Upper Peninsula including lab, primary care and rehabilitation services.  Priding itself on providing high quality healthcare close to home, War Memorial believes in making a difference in our great community.
